Tremco Flooring Supports SEND School Redevelopment in West Wales

The Project

Located in Haverfordwest, West Wales, the Portfield School redevelopment represents a major investment in specialist education facilities for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Led by Morgan Sindall Construction, the project is transforming an existing school site to create much-needed, high-quality spaces tailored to support students and staff. With a strong focus on performance, comfort, and durability, the flooring systems installed throughout the building play a vital role in achieving these goals.

Tremco Flooring has supplied the subfloor preparation materials, prior to the final floor coverings being installed. The high-performance flooring package was installed AJ Gollop Contract Flooring, supported with site visits and a full written specification from Tremco CPG.

Tremco System

The Tremco system was selected for its ease of installation, long-term reliability, and compatibility. All are key factors in a project where consistency and quality are crucial. The installation currently covers 2,000m², with potential to expand in the future on the large site. 

The full Tremco specification includes:

• ES101 TREMBlock DPM(One Coat Epoxy DPM Solvent and Bisphenol A free)
  This has been developed specifically to provide a guaranteed surface damp proof membrane with a single coat, where a structural damp proof membrane may not be present, or newly installed slabs have a high level construction moisture.
• CS150 Acrylic Primer - CS150 Acrylic Primer is specifically designed for use as a primer for polymer screed applications or beneath smoothing compounds on porous substrates.
• CS190 Gritty Primer -  CS190 Gritty Primer is a ready mixed, ready to use rapid drying primer that can be used on both absorbent and non-absorbent substrates. CS190 provides a textured surface which gives an excellent bonding surface for smoothing compounds and screeds
• SX302 TREMSmooth MT -  This has been developed for use in a number of environments as an underlayment, prior to application of carpet, wood and vinyl flooring. A moisture tolerant product that gives a smooth finish.
• Flowcrete Glass Fibre Mesh- Incorporated for added reinforcement, particularly in areas subject to heavy use and movement, improving long-term durability.
• SX100 Renovation Screed- A fibre reinforced, water mix smoothing compound which can be applied up to 50mm deep in one application. Protein free and also pumpable up to 2000mm a day.

On Site Collaboration and Progress

Gollop Contract Flooring, supported by the Tremco technical team, have worked closely to ensure all products are applied in sequence and to specification. The flooring solutions have been praised for their ease of application and compatibility with the tight schedules typical of educational construction.While still in progress, the installation has already demonstrated the reliability and performance of the Tremco system in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
